Why is TikTok so populair
Without even noticing you are scrolling for hours on TikTok. Especially kids and young adults love this app. Others say it is a waste of time. Since 2020, TikTok is also known as the newest app if you want to grow your brand or as an influencer. TikTok is a mix of music, lip-sync, and micro-video content. Their aim is to capture and present the world’s creativity, knowledge, and precious life moments, directly from the mobile phone.
The app was invented in 2014 under a different name: Musical-ly. It became popular with the 13–18-year-olds. The main purpose of this app was to combine popular songs with music. That became lip-syncing and dancing. By 2017, Musical.ly had over 200 million users and in 2019, 500 million installs only on Google Play Store. The app is available in 154 countries worldwide. Now, 40% of Tiktok users are from outside China. 25% of the users are from India and approximately 14 million are from the US.
On Tiktok you can post about anything. Fitness, travel, music, photography, dance, fashion, humour, your brand; you just must find your category. Moreover, entertainment seems to be the most important factor now. However, education, aspirational, and business-oriented content is high on the rise.
On average, a TikTok user spends over 52 minutes per day on the app. Instagram has an average of 53 minutes, Snapchat 49,5 minutes and Facebook leads 58,5 minutes. For marketers, this can be a big deal. What are the different advertisement options? Brand takeover ads, In-Feed Native video ads and Branded hashtag Challenges.
TikTok is the most downloaded app on the Apple App Store – 33 Million.
But why is TikTok is popular?
On TikTok, you can be yourself. There is no editing on pictures and changing the way your body looks. TikTok is real. This is how Gen Z sees it. However, TikTok uses face filters and with the updated version you can change the way your body looks. When Instagram was introduced, the first trends and funny videos were seen there. Then it was posted on Facebook. The same thing is now happening with TikTok. First, you see trends, funny video’s on TikTok and then a couple of days later you can find it all over Instagram. Thus, Gen Z wants to be on a platform to gain attention and where the parents are not active. That is why they were searching for a new platform. Lastly, earning money through TikTok is easier than Instagram since it is all about likes, views and comments instead of having a brand deal. The TikTok creators are not dependent on brands to earn money. In conclusion, TikTok is so popular because it is more real, has the first trends, parents are not active on this platform, and easy access to a new form of earning money.
